Modern slavery and human trafficking statement

Our vision

Parakram Limited is committed to understand all potential modern slavery risks related to the business and therefore perform all measures to eliminate acts of modern slavery and human trafficking within the business and in supply chains, sub-contractors and partners.

Modern slavery can take many forms which can include the trafficking of people, forced labour, servitude and slavery. At Parakram Ltd, we are aware of the signs of exploitation and   are committed to take the necessary action promptly and effectively once identified.

This statement focuses specifically on Parakram’s compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (the Act) and highlights the steps we take to ensure there is no slavery or human trafficking occurring within the organisation or its supply chains.

Definition of modern slavery

Modern slavery is a heinous and often hidden crime and the impact can be devastating for the victims. Modern slavery can be broadly grouped into four categories but is not limited to:

  • sexual exploitation: this includes sexual abuse, forced prostitution and the abuse of children for the production of child abuse images or videos
  • domestic servitude: this involves victims being forced to work in usually private households, performing domestic chores  and childcare duties
  • labour Exploitation: this can happen in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, laying  driveways, hospitality, food packaging, agriculture, maritime and beauty
  • criminal exploitation: this can be understood as the exploitation of a person to commit a crime, such as pick-pocketing, shop-lifting, cannabis cultivation, drug trafficking and other similar activities that are subject to penalties and imply financial gain for the trafficker
  • other forms of exploitation include organ  removal, forced begging fraud, marriage, and illegal adoption

Within our own business

We have a number of procedures in place that contribute in trying to ensure modern slavery does not occur in our business:

  • robust recruitment policy and process which  are compliant with UK employment legislation, the process includes a  number of pre-employment checks, for example 'right to work' document  checks, referencing and understanding any employment gaps.
  • reporting knowledge or suspicion of slavery  through our whistleblowing procedures to ensure that staff or members can raise their concerns confidentially without fear of reprisal
  • staff awareness training for staff which  supports the Modern Slavery Act

Within our supply chain

Parakram Ltd aims to work with only those suppliers that demonstrate high levels of commitment to monitoring and reducing the risk of modern slavery and human trafficking taking place within their organisations or supply chains. As a pre-condition to work with Parakram Ltd,  supplier and partners must confirm their compliance with the Act. If a supplier fails to provide the information requested or meet Parakram’s expectations, the company will take appropriate action, which includes terminating the relationship with supplier or partner.

Any supplier engaged by us to undertake the supply of services is contracted to do so in line with our following policies:

  • safeguarding
  • equality and diversity code of conduct
  • whistleblowing

These policies are key to ensuring that staff employed by our supply chain and partners have appropriate channels to report any incidents of slavery and human trafficking.

Policies, due diligence and audit process

Our supplier relationship and contract management teams utilise supply chain management techniques to ensure that effective contract management is applied to direct suppliers and their supply chain to deliver our requirements in the most cost-effective manner. This would include the identification and management of risks in relation to modern slavery and human trafficking. This is done by:

  • increasing transparency, and efficiency managing  supply chains
  • enhancing ability to identify strengths,  weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in supply chains
  • communication enhancement with suppliers
